Using CAMP to Build a More Representative Preservation Commission

Last year, Preservation Austin identified a need for the City's Historic Landmark Commission to be a better reflection of the community it represents. Toward this goal, Preservation Austin invited interested BIPOC community members to attend a virtual Commission Assistance & Mentoring Program (CAMP) training.CAMP Trainers, Adrienne Burke and Adam Lovelady prepared CAMPers to serve as commissioners by providing an overview of the role and responsibilities of the Historic Landmark Commission with topics like Legal Basics and Standards & Guidelines for Design Review.UPDATE: Preservation Austin recently shared with us that TWO CAMPers have been appointed to Austin's Historic Landmark Commission, greatly increasing representation on the City's 11-member commission! Way to go, Austin! If you'd like to learn more about this type of training, please contact NAPC's Program Manager, Marie Snyder at marie@napcommissions.org.
